Important: Travelling with your pet on Air Canada

To effectively handle the high volume of baggage loads and meet the needs of the vast majority of passengers, effective July 15, 2007, pets will no longer be accepted as checked baggage on
AC domestic flights, and, pending Canadian Transportation Agency approval, on International and Transborder flights.

Travellers wishing to transport pets have the option to do so through Air Canada Cargo where the Cargo team have a specialized "live animal travel" program and are able to plan the best flights for pets to travel on.

Pet birds may not travel on Air Canada, either in the cabin or checked as live cargo.

Pets have not been allowed in the cabin service on Air Canada since Sept 18, 2006.

Only certified, professionally-trained service animals assisting customers with disabilities will continue to be carried, free of charge, in the passenger cabin at the customer's feet - providing that they have a registered training certificate.

NOTE: Canadian Transportation Agency has suspended Air Canada's proposed modification on International flights

This suspension only applies to flights between Canada and the U.S. (Transborder) and international flights to/from Canada.

On June 22, 2007, the Canadian Transportation Agency received a formal complaint about AC's application to discontinue the carriage of animals as checked baggage as of July 15, 2007. As a result, the Agency has asked AC and the complainant to make submissions on the matter. The Agency will determine if the change in the carrier's policy is just, reasonable and not unduly discriminatory.

Is your Permanent Resident Card EXPIRING soon?

This wallet-sized plastic card is required for all permanent residents of Canada seeking to re-enter Canada on a commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus).

Since June 2002, all new permanent residents automatically receive their first Permanent Resident Card as part of the immigration process.

If you came to Canada as a permanent resident before June 2002, the Permanent Resident Card replaces your original landing papers. It is the only acceptable proof of your status as a permanent resident of Canada. If you leave the country, you must show this document when you return to Canada by commercial carrier.

The Permanent Resident Card expires every five years. Check the expiry date and apply for a new one well before you plan to travel outside Canada.

This will ensure adequate time for passenger processing at airport.

IDENTITY SCREENING REMINDER
Since the implementation of Transport Canada's "Passenger Protect Program" in June 2007, you must ENSURE that your airline reservation is made with your EXACT name as it appears on your travel identification (i.e. passport).

Eg. If it states "Michael Smith" on your passport, "Mike Smith" is not acceptable on your airline reservation.
